Online Lessons

How it works

I’ve been teaching piano and music theory for over ten years now, across two continents, in Romania, Los Angeles (CA, USA), and London (UK). Ever since the pandemic I switched to teaching piano lessons online through zoom. I currently have a few slots available!

If you have any questions and want to start lessons with me, please write me through the contact form on this website.

All lessons are tailored to my students’ needs. I encourage everyone to reach their best potential!

My aim is to provide the best foundation, technique, musicality and the most logical approach to piano performance, music theory and ear training. My students often pursue ABRSM and TRINITY grades, so I am happy to prepare you to take these exams if you wish (up to Grade 8 level). My students have received high marks in these exams and some of them even won gold and silver awards at the Wimbledon Piano Competition.

WHAT ARE THE CURRENT PRICES?

I currently charge

£30 for 30 mins lessons

£40 for 45 mins lessons

£50 for 60 mins lessons

*Discounts are available for advance block bookings of 10 lessons or more.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

There is no lower or upper age limit for lessons, but since I now teach only online (and sometimes hybrid) lessons, I advise that the earliest age would be 7 or 8 years old.

WHAT DO I NEED TO START ONLINE LESSONS?

In order to make online lessons extremely efficient, we both need:

  • a good instrument (full size digital piano or acoustic piano)

  • an USB microphone plugged in

  • a very stable and fast internet connection - best secured through Ethernet cable

  • the camera from your laptop is usually fine! we sort out the angle when we have a chat.

  • tweek zoom settings for music, and save them for future meetings (I show you how to do this)

  • write me an email and we are good to go!

WHICH PIANO SHOULD I BUY?

I heartily reccomend ROLAND FP80 and up, or KAWAII ES800 and up (current model is KAWAII ES920)

If your budget does not allow these, you may start with another cheaper full size, sensitive keyboard. For this I recommend CASIO CDP digital piano series.

If you’re in London UK, I recommend paying a visit to rosemorris.co.uk, on Denmark St and trying out pianos there. They have wonderful customer service and will help you choose a good instrument.

If you’re looking for an acoustic piano, check out a store near you, or pay a visit to Jaques Samuels jspianos.com, they have amazing options there!

REVIEWS

  • “I totally recommend Maria as a piano teacher. She is the most patient and encouraging person I know and never tires of reminding me of the things I keep forgetting. I am an adult learner and she knows exactly how to help me improve with everything from playing pieces to learning scales and arpeggios. Her knowledge of theory is amazing and she knows how to explain it so it's easy to understand.” - C., London UK

  • “Maria is the best teacher ever. She is patient, thorough and very knowledgeable of all styles of music. She makes learning the piano so much fun and I always look forward to our lessons. Maria also places focus on all aspects of playing the piano including posture, breathing and performance anxiety.” - D., London UK

  • "Maria is one of the most talented and inspired musicians I know." - M., London UK

  • “Maria gave piano lessons to both my son and me for about 3 years. My son (age 8-10) had been playing for two years before starting lessons with Maria, and I have been playing for over thirty years. Maria is, in a word, the best. Both her musical skills and her ability to communicate with her students are exceptional. From a musical perspective, she emphasizes both technique and interpretation, and teaches both equally well. As an active musician and composer when she isn’t teaching piano lessons, Maria’s passion for music is always visible. Her own musical intuition is extraordinary and she is able to convey that to her students in the way she talks about and explains pieces they are working on. She is particularly skilled at solving problems of technique that come up when a student is learning a piece, and having a hard time mastering a particular passage or section of the piece. Maria treats every student as if she believes that the student has the ability to become an outstanding musician. Rather than working on a piece for a short while and then saying, ‘Good enough’, and moving on to the next piece (as many teachers do), Maria insists that her students get the most they possibly can out of each piece, and they learn to play each piece to the maximum depth of their ability. Yet she is able to do this in a way that is fun for her students, without making them feel that they are being pushed too hard. On a personal level, in her relationships with her students, Maria is also exceptional. She comes to every lesson full of enthusiasm and positive energy. During the three years she was teaching my son and me, there wasn’t a single time she came to our house with anything less than the best possible attitude and determination to give the best lessons she could … even though the lessons were often at night after she had already taught a full day of lessons. She teaches her lessons always with joy, happiness and laughter, yet always without detracting from the serious purpose of learning to play the piano.” - S., Los Angeles USA
